Roof of rowhouses collapses following fire in Braddock


The roof atop a group of abandoned rowhouses collapsed after catching fire in Braddock on Thursday morning.The fire broke out shortly after 1:30 a.m. on the 200 block of Oliver Street.Firefighters were on the scene for several hours.No one was inside the rowhomes and there were no reports of injuries.Braddock VFD Chief C.J. Kaminsky said the fire did spread to another abandoned home behind the row houses. He said there is a history of people squatting there. Those homes will have to be torn down. “I was really worried about my neighbor,” said Harriet Jenkins, who lives nearby and was asleep when the flames broke out. “My brother woke me up. He said all that was on fire back there.”There was no initial word on the cause of the fire.
