RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Flying Squirrels hosted a block party to kick start the opening of individual-game ticket sales for the 2024 season.
On Saturday, March 2, the Richmond Flying Squirrels hosted Nutzy’s Block Party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Blue Lot at The Diamond, which offered fans the first opportunity to purchase individual-game tickets for the 2024 season.
The block party was a free event filled with fun activities, including food trucks, vendors, a petting zoo and a car show for families and friends to enjoy.
The block party also featured a yard sale with game-worn jerseys and other Flying Squirrels memorabilia, with proceeds from the sale to benefit Flying Squirrels Charities.
Todd “Parney” Parnell, senior advisor of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, attended the event. He said the block party was one of the first events the team did in 2010 in order to sell game tickets.
“Now, it’s a day that people can come and see different vendors, and really enjoy a morning out with the family,” Parney said.
Parney said the Squirrels staff does a great job in adding something new to the event every year for families of all ages and sizes to make memories with The Flying Squirrels team.
“[The event] is indicative of what The Flying Squirrels are,” Parney said. “This not just an event. We’re not just a baseball team. We’re in the memory-making business.”
Parney said the turnout for the event was amazing, despite the rainy weather.
“On a day when it rained all night and all morning, we still [had] an amazing crowd here to celebrate the Squirrels season starting April 9,” Parney said.
The opening night of the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2024 season is April 9. Tickets are now available to purchase online at the Minor League Baseball team’s website.
