Many residents said they are disgusted about what’s going on. There are apartment buildings across the street, a baseball field and a playground nearby, and just out of sight, a few yards away is the illegal dump. The pile contains toilets, mattresses, furniture and a vacuum cleaner. There are trash bags too, some of which are leaking.”It’s terrible because this is a nice community. Kids play over there; people congregate in this community. It’s a nice community, so it’s really sad to see people do that. Probably the people doing it don’t even live around here,” said Lisa Cole, a resident.The dumping ground is fairly isolated.According to neighbors, whoever is responsible dumps garbage during the day and night.”They ride up there in pickup trucks, unload it. They come back, they be empty,” said one man who did not want to be identified.The Wildwood Gardens Apartment management is taking proactive steps to catch those responsible. Building surveillance cameras have captured three different pick-up trucks using the area as a dumping ground. They gave it all to police.”We do have the picture, tag number. We have all that stuff. I think last week, we provided that,” Wildwood Gardens Apartment Manager Mona Shah said.Baltimore Recreation and Parks said it is aware of the problem. Officials said a statement: “We work to constantly clean up and clear the area of trash and debris, however, as fast as we can get it cleaned, more dumping often takes place. We are currently working together with BGE on a solution that includes a possible blockage or barrier at the opening to restrict access.”Some neighbors said they remain skeptical.”If they said they kept cleaning it up, they could have put barriers before, there’s still trash. (I’ll) believe it when I see it,” said Samantha Lussier, a resident. Depending on the severity, violators face fines and possible jail time for illegal dumping.
