Reported threat grounds JetBlue flight at Richmond International Airport for over 5 hours

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Travelers were confused and concerned Thursday night when their flight from Atlanta to New York City made an expected landing at Richmond International Airport in Henrico County due to a security threat.

Agents from the FBI Richmond Field Office, as well as Henrico County Division of Police officers, responded to the airport at around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 after a “potential threat” was reported aboard JetBlue flight 1320, forcing it to touch down.

“The flight was met by law enforcement, customers were deplaned and a security rescreening will take place before the flight continues to New York,” said a JetBlue spokesperson after the landing. “The safety of our customers and crewmembers is JetBlue’s first priority.”

FBI Richmond said that “no credible threat to the aircraft or passengers” were found, it took until just before 2:30 a.m. Friday for responders to mark the scene “all clear.” Passengers spent the night in Henrico County and got on a rescheduled flight to New York Friday afternoon.

This incident comes just a day after two JetBlue planes clipped each other on the tarmac at Boston Logan International Airport.
