RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Shortly after announcing an emergency blood shortage, the American Red Cross has launched its Blood Donor Rewards program.
The organization said blood donors will earn points for each donation, which are accrued and can be redeemed for merchandise or gift cards.
Total points awarded for a donation include a base point amount of 100 and any of the following applicable bonuses:
- Power Red: 100 bonus points
- Plasma: 100 bonus points
- Platelets: 100 bonus points
- Type O Bonus (whole blood): 100 Points
- Type O Bonus (Power Red): 200 Points
- Need-based bonuses may be offered at limited times throughout the year
According to the organization’s website, a 40-ounce Vacuum Tumbler is worth 400 points and a $10 e-gift card is worth 500 points.
