Prince Edward dog shot numerous times will keep buckshot with her always, police still searching for shooter

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A dog found in Prince Edward County who had been shot numerous times is now under the care of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Richmond SPCA) and will soon be put up for adoption.

The sweet girl, now called “Bettie,” was recently found in the Green Bay area of Prince Edward by county officers. According to a March 1 Facebook post, she was brought to Prince Edward County Animal Care and Control, where staff discovered an odd scar pattern and countless bumps beneath her skin.

While she had no obvious recent injuries, x-rays revealed that Bettie had been shot quite a few times. According to the post, the staff who cared for her could barely believe she was even alive — yet, here she was, not only alive but without any significant damage to her body.

According to a March 5 Facebook post, Bettie was transferred into the care of Richmond SPCA the same day Prince Edward shared her story. While she was sedated to be spayed, the veterinary team investigated the buckshot throughout Bettie’s body.

“Fortunately, Bettie did not suffer any broken bones or damage to her organs, but sadly, the fragments cannot be removed without causing further damage, so they are with her permanently,” the Richmond SPCA post reads.
