Less than a month after the release of DelawareOnline’s collection of most influential people in The First State, a couple of Delawareans have landed on TIME magazine’s annual list of most influential people in the world.
The first should be no shock since he is also the leader of the free world: President Joe Biden.

The part-time Greenville and Rehoboth Beach resident, currently on an overseas trip to Ireland, is included in the “Leaders” section of the TIME100 list, released Thursday.
Biden’s entry, authored by TIME senior correspondent Brian Bennett, focuses on his accomplishments as the longtime Delaware politician eyes a second term.
“Yet Biden’s polling remains underwater amid an uncertain economy,” Bennett writes. “The irony for Biden is that many of his accomplishments won’t be fully felt until years after voters have their say in 2024. Getting that record across will be Biden’s charge as he makes his case for a second term.”
The other Delaware TIME100 member is actress Aubrey Plaza, who, like Biden, was also on DelawareOnline/The News Journal’s 2023 list.
The past year for Plaza has been a whirlwind, snagging an Emmy Award nomination for HBO’s “The White Lotus,” earning rave reviews for her starring role in the film “Emily the Criminal” and landing the hosting spot on “Saturday Night Live.”
Her TIME100 write-up, penned by “Parks and Recreation” co-star Amy Poehler, touched on their time working together before turning its attention on the more human side of the Wilmington native and Ursuline Academy graduate.
“Aubrey loves an outsider. She roots for the underdog. She befriends the misunderstood,” Poehler explains. “She has learned the glorious freedom that comes from not wanting your approval. But don’t mistake that cool demeanor as ambivalence. She cares deeply about her craft and her friends and has become one of the most interesting actors working today.
“Plus, she speaks Spanish and can hit a fastball.”
The TIME100 issue has four covers for worldwide distribution with each one featuring a TIME100 honoree: actor Jennifer Coolidge, singer Doja Cat, CEO of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger and actor Michael B. Jordan.
To celebrate their list, TIME will host the annual TIME100 Gala on April 26. It will be hosted by Plaza’s “The White Lotus” co-star Coolidge and include performances byDoja Cat andLea Michele.
A TIME100 primetime television special recorded at the TIME100 Gala will air April 30 at 7 p.m. on ABC, which will also stream on Hulu and Disney+.
