A long holiday-filled weekend is almost here, but you may want to start planning some indoor celebrations as chances of thunderstorms roll in.
Here’s the forecast for the weekend, including what you should know for Father’s Day and Juneteenth.
The clear, sunny skies following Wednesday’s thunderstorms created enough instability in the atmosphere to cause thunderstorms for Friday and Saturday morning.
According to NWS, Friday during the day will be mostly sunny with a chance of showers in the morning, likely to follow into the afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms. Expect humid temperatures with highs in the upper 70s, with some gusty winds and potential hail precipitation.
Are we in a drought?:Parts of Delaware are in moderate drought, with record-low precipitation levels
Friday night will be mostly cloudy with continued chance of thunderstorms and lows in the low 60s. Showers should quiet down by late Friday night. The high tide Friday night may cause some coastal flooding along the coasts of Delaware and New Jersey as well as within the Delaware Bay.
Saturday afternoon will also see a chance of storms, although not as intense as Friday’s. Otherwise the forecast calls for a mostly cloudy day, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
Storms should subside by Sunday just in time for Father’s Day celebrations. Forecasts are calling for clear skies with temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
The forecast is less certain for Monday’s Juneteenth celebrations. As of now, the NWS is calling for warm weather with highs near 77 and lows around 64 degrees. Chances of rain are plausible for early next week, including a chance of showers after 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
