RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police are investigating following a report of shots fired during an early morning attempted robbery on Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) Monroe Park campus.
According to an alert from the university, VCU Police were informed of an attempted robbery in the 600 block of Cumberland Street, which reportedly took place at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9.
The three victims said a red Honda Civic approached them that morning while they were walking on Cumberland Street. As the Civic came to a stop, one of the people inside of the car reportedly yelled “give me your money” at the three victims.
Two passengers then exited the vehicle, with one of them reportedly revealing a gun and firing three shots into the air. According to the alert, the two men got back into the Civic and it sped off, last seen heading north on Pine Street.
The victims described the three suspects as Hispanic males. No other information is known at this time.
According to the alert, the Richmond Police Department is investigating this incident and patrols have been increased in the area.
