One woman was killed and another seriously injured in an early morning crash on I-95 near Wilmington on Tuesday, Delaware State Police said.
Tyerra Weddington, 25, of Wilmington, died in the wreck. Her passenger, a 28-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital where her serious injuries are being treated.
Neither woman was wearing her seat belt, according to police.
What caused the crash on I-95?
The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday as Weddington drove a 2007 Chevrolet Impala south on I-95. As she approached the Route 141 overpass, police said, she veered to the right, crossing over two traffic lanes before the car began spinning.
The Impala then struck the guardrail, causing it to become detached and penetrate the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Weddington was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The three right lanes of I-95 south were closed for about five hours while the crash was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
