Police: 8 injured after school buses crash on north I-75 in West Chester Township


Police and emergency crews were on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash involving multiple school buses on north I-75 in West Chester Township Friday evening. According to Ohio State Highway Police, the crash involving three Northwest Local District buses occurred just before 5:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate near Cincinnati-Dayton Road. Officials said the three buses were traveling in the right lane when they came upon stopped traffic. The lead school bus stopped abruptly, which led to a chain reaction crash involving all three school buses and a Ford pick-up truck.WLWT confirmed the Colerain High School football team was on the buses involved in the accident. The team was on their way to a game against Mason High School when the crash occurred, sources said. The game was still played Friday evening. The Colerain High School football coach confirmed to WLWT there minor injuries reported. Officials said seven players and one coach were transported to local hospitals. Four victims were sent to West Chester Hospital and four other victims were transported to Children’s Liberty Hospital. Officials confirmed all victim injuries were non-life threatening. Colerain officials arranged for the remaining players to be picked up and taken to Mason High school to play in Friday’s playoff football game, sources confirmed. The game was delayed until 8 p.m., Mason Athletics confirmed. Colerain ultimately lost 14-7 to Mason in the game. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
