Great Wolf Lodge’s opening Thursday, June 29, means that Delaware families will have another one-stop-shop destination for quick vacations.
If you plan a visit to the new resort in Perryville, Maryland, located about 20 minutes south of the Delaware line on I-95, there are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area if you tire of the frenzy of the waterpark.
Here are some places to check out.
Hollywood Casino Located on the same site as Great Wolf Lodge, the casino’s 695 slot machines and 19 table games are sure to keep any parent occupied. The casino is reserved for guests aged 21 and up, but the Barstool Sportsbook Restaurant is open to all ages, with over 50 TVs to keep up with any game imaginable.
Plus, if you show proof of your Great Wolf Lodge stay, you can receive a $15 dining credit toward a meal at Barstool Sportsbook or Hollywood Express.

Havre de Grace
Havre de Grace, Maryland, is a town just a 10-minute drive across the Susquehanna River from Perryville. The quaint and historic town is home to over 3,000 acres of parkland and outdoor areas for people to explore.
Concord Point Lighthouse
Just under 4 miles from the Great Wolf Lodge, the Concord Point Lighthouse is almost 2 centuries old and sits at the intersection between the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay. It’s open only on weekends, but it’s free to visit and offers educational tours and a chance to climb to the top.
The lighthouse is also adjacent to the Havre de Grace Promenade, a short boardwalk that overlooks the Susquehanna River.
Susquehanna State Park
For a more wilderness-centered trip, the Susquehanna State Park is one of the most popular spots in the state for biking and fishing, with over 15 miles of trails and direct access to the Susquehanna River.
Bulle Rock Golf Club
One of the most popular courses in Maryland, the Bulle Rock Golf Club has been consistently recognized as one of the top public courses in the country. Daily fees go for around $88 on weekdays and $105 on weekends during the summer months. Avid golfers will be sure to enjoy the “player friendly” design and scenic views the course has to offer.

Havre de Grace Decoy Museum
The decoy museum is full of intricately designed replicas of aquatic birds originally used for hunting. While this may not be the first activity that comes to mind when exploring a new area, there is plenty of historical significance behind the craft that is integral to the communities around the Chesapeake Bay, and this museum has earned the small town of Havre de Grace the title of “decoy capital of the world.”
The museum is also close to greenways and parks that make up the town.
Plumpton Park Zoo
If Wiley the Wolf and the other Great Wolf Lodge mascots inspire you to interact with non-costumed animals, the Plumpton Park Zoo is just a 20-minute drive away at 1416 Telegraph Road in Rising Sun, Maryland.
The zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day during the summer, and tickets are around $20 for adults and $15 for kids. You can check out the different mammals, reptiles and birds, feed the giraffes or set up a guided tour for the family.
Chesapeake City
Just a 30-minute drive from the Great Wolf Lodge, Chesapeake City is a regional favorite for scenic events and quick getaways. Just along the waterfront, the quaint town has been nationally recognized for its historic district, shopping and galleries. There are a few restaurants and bars along the water and a number of walking trails in the surrounding area.
The town also holds various events and movie viewings around the city as well as ferry rides connecting the north and south sides of the town. After a long weekend spent in water slides and adventure parks, a peaceful trip to Chesapeake City’s shops and restaurants may be the perfect way to cap off a family trip.
