RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Oscars red carpet was filled with a lot of pinks, poofs and movie references — some intentional.
The 96th Oscars aired at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 10. 8News has rounded up the most memorable looks from the Oscars red carpet.
Ariana Grande wore a poofy, pink dress to the Oscars red carpet. The look resembles Glinda’s iconic pink dress from “The Wizard of Oz” movie as Grande will play the same character in the film’s prequel movie “Wicked.” The “Wicked” film is an adaptation from the Broadway musical and is set to release this year.
In honor of her role in the film “Barbie,” America Ferrera honored the famous doll by wearing lots of pink and sparkles, with a bedazzled pink clutch purse to match.
“Dune 2” star Florence Pugh wore a dazzling silver dress with a snake necklace wrapped around her neck as a staple piece. As many stars wore outfits calling back to their previous or upcoming work, the snake could be a nod to Dune’s Shai-Hulud worm, or just a simple fashion statement.
Following behind Pugh is her “Dune 2” co-star Anya Taylor-Joy who also wore a silver dress, but with ruffles that almost resembled scales. Whether intentional or not, she matched Pugh with the snake symbolism. Either way, they both shined on the red carpet.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” star and best actress in a leading role nominee Lily Gladstone wore a midnight blue gown, paying homage to her Indigenous heritage. Had Gladstone won the award for best actress, she would have been the first Native American to do so.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph wore a feathery Cinderella blue dress to the red carpet, with blonde hair to crown her princess look as the most memorable look at the Oscars. Randolph went home with the Oscars award for best supporting actress for her role in “The Holdovers.”
“Birdman” and “Alice & Jack” actress Andrea Riseborough wore an eccentric plaid dress to the Oscars red carpet, however she wasn’t the only one, as song artist Billie Eilish also wore a plaid skirt.
“Singing in the Rain” and “West Side Story” actress Rita Moreno wore a black ruffle dress to the Oscars red carpet, with long black gloves for an elegant look almost inspired by Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” but with more poof.
Actress Jacqueline Steward, who played a role in 2003’s “Freddy vs. Jason,” wore a branch headpiece to the Oscars, which certainly turned heads and was a memorable look on the red carpet.
Billie Eilish, nominee and winner for best original song for “What Was I Made For?” featured in the film “Barbie,” adorned a classic “Clueless” plaid skirt, white ankle socks and black Mary Jane shoes to the Oscars. It is giving business Barbie.
