A 48-year-old pedestrian has died in the hospital after being struck by a car in Newark on Saturday night, Newark Police Department reported.
The victim, identified as Amanuel Kiflemariam of Newark, was hit while crossing the eastbound lanes of State Route 4 near Science Boulevard at around 8:28 p.m., police reported. According to police, Kiflemariam was wearing dark clothing and did not use a crosswalk.

Police, firefighters and paramedics found Kiflemariam injured on the road and gave emergency medical care, Newark Police Department said. Kiflemariam was then taken to the hospital for his injuries, where he died days later, police reported.
State Route 4 between South College Avenue and Elkton Road was closed for about two hours while the crash was investigated, Newark police said. They reported that speed and alcohol did not seem to be factors in the crash.
