The much-anticipated third season of “Only Murders in the Building” premiered last week with the same core trio – Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin − being joined in the cast by Hollywood heavyweights Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd.
The third season of the mystery comedy finds our podcasting team ‒ Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short) and Mabel (Gomez) ‒ confronted with the latest death, which was teased in the Season 2 finale: Ben Glenroy (Rudd), a movie star who just happened to be the lead in has-been theater director Oliver’s big comeback play on Broadway, in which Charles also stars.
USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler gave the show 2½ out of 4 stars, commenting that the “slapstick shtick of ‘Only Murders’ is in danger of getting old” and that the addition of Streep to the cast “brings a surprising sense of whimsy to the popular series.” Season 3 earned the “certified fresh” label from Rotten Tomatoes. The show has a 99% average rating from 75 critic reviews, as of Friday, Aug. 11.
