RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One man is dead and another has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after both were shot at a West Broad Street private club in Richmond, according to police.
Officers with the Richmond Police Department responded to the 300 block of West Broad Street at about 3:22 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, after receiving report of a person shot.
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police also responded to the scene. In its alerts on the issue, VCU Police identified 321 West Broad St. as the location of the shooting and said it took place at a private club.
Upon their arrival, officers found a man unresponsive in the roadway with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.
According to police, a second victim was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. Officers were informed that this man had multiple gunshot wounds and his injuries were considered life-threatening.
Both victims have not yet been identified at the time of reporting.
Police have said they believe this shooting incident was the result of an “altercation” at the private club.
A spokesperson for Richmond Police told 8News the department currently has no reason to believe there were any other victims, though the investigation remains ongoing.
West Broad Street was closed to thru traffic in both directions to allow for Richmond Police to continue its investigation. As of 7:14 a.m., it has been reopened.
