No. 1 brewery, Hippiefest, R&B, late summer beach trip top weekend fun

We are busy working on back-to-school and football content like busy bees.

But that doesn’t mean we’ve given up on summer fun.

The weather is going to be all over the place, with the forecast in the Wilmington area looking like a high of 82 and a low of 62 Saturday, and then heating back up to a high of 90 on Sunday and 95 (!!!) on Monday. So enjoy your Saturday long walks and picnics and hammock snoozes.

Whether you want to hit the board and beach, a festival or a daytrip to Philly, we’ve got you.

Here are some weekend highlights, even if you are also gearing up for football and school.

Nosh on some Delmarva chicken

The Kiwanis club in Bridgeville, Delaware hosts one of the oldest Delmarva-style BBQ chicken shacks in Delaware, each Saturday and Sunday from April to October. Tom Carey, the chapter president, runs the grill.

Matthew Korfhage did a deep dive to bring you a bucket full of chicken intel. Gas and napkins not included.

Hit an award-winning brewery

Dive into a beach read

Beach patrols from Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, Dewey Beach, Sea Colony, Delaware State Parks, Middlesex Beach, and Ocean City, Md., took part in a Junior Beach Patrol Competition in Rehoboth Beach on Monday, Aug. 8. No score was kept, but the event promotes water safety techniques and camaraderie between the patrols.

Shannon Marvel McNaught has not given up on covering everything that moves at the beaches.

Check out her weekly guide to all things sand and surf.

It’s time to get in those last days at the beach and cram in all the summer activities you’ve been delaying. Go to Funland, to Jungle Jim’s. Stroll the boardwalk. Go mini golfing. Take a boat ride with Cape Water Tours. Explore state parks, Shannon advises.
