Appoquinimink School District delays mandatory dress code

The Appoquinimink School District has decided to delay a move toward a uniform dress code for a year, asking parents to try the standard dress voluntarily next year on their first to fifth graders.

The code calls for blue black or khaki pants, skirts or jumpers paired with collared shirts in the same colors.

When surveyed this spring, about 69 percent of parents said they were in favor of the code. But a committee of faculty and parents hoped for 75 percent before the district mandated the policy….

Janice Johnson, president of the Cedar Lane Elementary PTA, said she thought the voluntary measure was a good compromise….
