National Weather Service in Wakefield opens applications for summer volunteer program

SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Are you a student interested in meteorology? The National Weather Service in Wakefield is accepting applications for its 2024 Summer Student Volunteer Program.

Applications are open to any student enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree in meteorology or a related science.

The program will allow students to become familiar with a National Weather Service field office and assist in day to day operations. Students will also have the opportunity to conduct a mentored research project and present it to local weather service staff at the end of the summer.

To apply for the Summer Student Volunteer Program, students must submit the following:

  • Submit an online application through the National Weather Service’s website.
  • Mail a resume including previous experience, references and latest GPA
  • Mail the most recent college transcripts — unofficial transcripts are accepted

The deadline for application submissions are on Friday, Feb. 16.
