National Park Service announces projected peak bloom period of cherry blossoms at the National Mall

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRIC) — The National Park Service has announced the projected peak bloom period of the Yoshino cherry blossoms at the National Mall.

This year, peak bloom is predicted to occur between March 23 and March 26.

According to the service, the peak bloom period is when 70% of the Yoshino cherry blossoms — the most common variety — are open.

The period varies annually depending on weather conditions, and typically lasts several days.

Forecasting peak bloom is nearly impossible more than 10 days in advance, due to changing weather conditions, according to the National Park Service.
