More Richmond area residents express frustrations with mounting mail problems

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — As frustrations rise, patience is running thin for residents of the Richmond area who are still dealing with mail issues.

Dozens of people attended a postal town hall Wednesday night to express their frustrations about the problems they’ve had getting their mail over the past few months.

Rocio Carrillo, who did not attend the town hall, told 8News has lived in Richmond for 20 years without many mail problems, but these last few months have tested her patience.

“It’s been difficult and very frustrating, because sometimes, if I have my cash or a payment, it doesn’t get there on time,” Carrillo said.

Carrillo said she’s come home to open packages at her doorstep. When she went to the post office to address the problem, she said they suggested using a different address to avoid the issue.

“Sometimes, if I have a timely package or a payment, it doesn’t get there on time,” Carrillo said. “So I get overcharged or I get charged for packages that I’m not supposed to pay for.”

She said swift action needs to be taken — and a few more post office employees wouldn’t hurt either.

“They have to get more people delivering everything so they have enough time,” Carrillo said. “Sometimes, they don’t have enough staff and it’s very hard for them. They want a few of them to deliver everything on time or they lose track of them.”

The United States Postal Service is still yet to respond to questions about the mounting frustrations people are going through. Officials are encouraging anyone experiencing mail problems to contact their local state representative and file a case.
