An autumn Thursday evening in an otherwise quaint American small town. But at the heart of downtown, the atmosphere is electric … and Frank-N-Furter is about to take the stage of a sold-out show.
The lights go down, the crowd goes wild, and everyone’s in for a ride!
It’s hard to imagine that the Milton Theatre attracts more than 60,000 guests and hosts close to 300 events annually, considering its hometown of just 4,000. But looking at the recent record-breaking run of its in-house production of “The Rocky Horror Show: Experience” this past October, it’s no question why it is one of the busiest live venues in the state of Delaware.

“Magic” is the one word I constantly hear from patrons every time they pass through our doors. This more than 100-year-old structure which was initially built as a movie theater, has served at one time or another, as a basketball court, fire hall, restaurant and retail space. Now proudly stands as a hub of artistic culture, not just to the town of Milton, but for the Delmarva Peninsula. This history coupled with its organic feel simply makes it stand out from all other venues.
“Relentless” is how I would describe our team. It is the one character trait that has helped us survive and thrive despite all challenges.
And no challenge was greater than the COVID-19 pandemic. With venues closing around the world, we were the first venue in Delaware to reopen and provide live entertainment via our outdoor concert series “Quayside@Nite.” Two years later, it has turned into a summer staple for people in the area. What’s a better summer experience than live music in the setting of a historic downtown by the Broadkill River? This is just one example of the relentless innovation, creativity, progress and development of our audience experience. And we are determined, more than ever, to continue the recovery of live art.
“Variety” is key when it comes to our programming. We often surprise ourselves with the extent of options that we offer our audience. Live music and concerts, theatrical productions, comedy, film screenings, tribute acts, classes and more. Our programming’s mission is to offer “something for everyone. ” All tastes, ages, backgrounds, and genres, you’ll find something to enjoy and all are welcome! It has been an absolute honor and pleasure to provide a platform for artists and performers of all kinds.
“Essential” is what the theater is to downtown Milton. The past couple of years really made us think about what truly matters. What many of us realized is that experiences, actual human connections, and community … more than material things, are what we should truly invest in. And having a place like the Milton Theatre where at every event, all differences are set aside and everyone is connected by one thing, enjoying the same live art presented on stage creates community.
Local businesses also benefit from this artistic boom as it has been proven that live venues provide an anchor for additional foot traffic and revenue to the surrounding area.

“Nurture” is at the heart of our signature children’s theater education program to ensure the continuity of the appreciation and development of live art. The Musical Theatre Ensemble or MTE is a 10-week program that focuses on each of the three main concentrations of musical theatre; voice, dance and acting.
Our 2022 Summer Camp offerings also have seen a record number of enrollments. We also have partnered with Milton Elementary School in their F.A.M.E program that provides afterschool theater enrichment activities to local students.
The future is bright, and as they say … “the kids are alright”!
Take a “seat” in history as we continue our ongoing capital campaign to rebuild our balcony and upgrade our physical seats! Support our seat campaign and leave a lasting memento for yourself, a loved one, a friend, or promote your business in a plaque that will be installed on our new seats to commemorate your generosity. A main floor seat is $350, balcony seats are $500, and everything is 100% tax-deductible! This is just the first phase of the “Milton Theatre Renaissance Initiative” campaign which is set to introduce significant upgrades to our venue and solidify its legacy for future generations.
