Man struck in pair of Route 4 crashes in Newark Saturday night


A man was struck and injured by a vehicle near Route 4 and Science Boulevard in Newark near Delaware State University Saturday night, according to the Newark Police Department.

The pedestrian crash was one of two consecutive crashes that closed down Route 4 for numerous hours Saturday. 

The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Route 4, police said. Upon arrival, first responders administered medical care to the man before he was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment. 

Police did not provide the age or identification of the man. 

The striking vehicle and its driver remained at the scene and speed and alcohol did not seem to be a problem, police said.
