The Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department said a man who was trapped in a sand bin at Atlantic Concrete in Dagsboro was freed Wednesday afternoon, over six hours after he first reported being stuck.
First responders from across Delaware and Maryland had worked to rescue the man since 10:15 a.m. He was found buried up to his neck, and the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department said trucks from wastewater facilities carefully vacuumed up the sand to free him. He was “conscious and alert” the whole time and getting medical attention.
The man was freed and reunited with his family at 4:36 p.m., according to the Fire Department.
As of 5:30 p.m., the department reported that state police were waiting to airlift the man to Christiana Hospital. They described the man as “conscious, alert and stable.”
The department said Delaware State Police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration were also on the scene. They did not say the cause of the incident.
