A fire policeman is being hailed as a hero for pulling a man from his burning pickup truck on I-95 Monday afternoon.
James Ryan with Minquas Fire Company was headed home from work around 1:15 p.m. when he saw a two-car crash on I-95 south near Christiana.
Ryan, who was driving north, quickly made a U-turn to help the driver of a pickup truck, who had hit a guardrail. By the time Ryan reached the scene, the truck was ablaze and the man was unconscious, Ryan said.
Ryan jumped into action, grabbing the man and yanking him out of the vehicle. His arms and legs were on fire, Ryan said.
The fire policeman used a fire extinguisher to stop the man from burning and pulled him away from the vehicle. By that time, others had also stopped to help.
The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, said Christiana Fire Company Assistant Chief Dennis Godek. Another person involved in the wreck was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Delaware State Police closed much of the interstate as they investigated and cleared the wreck. It’s not yet clear how the crash occurred or what caused the pickup to catch fire.
The road reopened around 3:15 p.m., according to the Delaware Department of Transportation.
