A 28-year-old man died early Monday morning after being shot near a Wilmington park, police said.
Wilmington police officers and firefighters responded to Brown-Burton Winchester Park just after 6:30 a.m. following a 911 call. There, first responders found the victim by a swingset, according to emergency communications.
The 911 caller said there was “blood all around his mouth” and he was “cold to the touch,” first responders radioed. Later, responding firefighters told dispatchers it was an “obvious DOA,” meaning the man was already dead.
It’s unclear exactly when the shooting occurred. Police continue to investigate.
