A 50-year-old man has died after an apartment fire in Waukesha.Four other people were taken to the hospital.The fire broke out at the apartment building on Lambeth Road near Oakdale Drive.Police and firefighters were called to the apartment around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.”The fire was building. It started going up on the top, you know, hitting the balcony on the second floor,” neighbor Clinton Zimmerman said.Waukesha Fire Chief Steven Howard said two people had to jump from a second-floor window to escape the flames.”That’s when I saw the neighbor come out in his T-shirt and no shoes. I figured I’d help him out, give him a couple jackets and what I could for his footwear,” Zimmerman said.Howard said firefighters were able to find and rescue two others from inside the building.The fire department said five patients, three men and two women, were taken to the hospital. The two women had life-threatening burn injuries while the other two men had non-life-threatening injuries. Four other residents were in the building when the fire started and were uninjured.The cause of the fire is still under investigation but investigators said they do not suspect foul play.No other details have been released.
