Man dead, car destroyed in speed-related crash in Forest Hill


RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One man was killed in a speed-related crash in the Forest Hill area on Thursday evening.

The crash was reported on Kenmore Road and Forest Hill Avenue around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 25.

One man was killed in the single-car crash, according to Richmond Police.

Traffic lights at the intersection were not functioning at the time, but police have not said if the lights played a role in the crash. Police have instead confirmed that the incident was speed-related.

Witnesses at the scene told 8News that were was an explosion at the time of the crash.

One day after the crash, there is still damaged in the area, including glass and debris near the crash site.

Danielle McKeiver lives nearby and walks his dog around the neighborhood every day, and is sad to hear of something so deadly happening in a place he loves so much.

“It surprised me because the speed limit is 35 miles an hour. Nothing but two lanes, you know,” McKeiver said. “So I wouldn’t think anybody would be speeding like that up in this area, you know, So I don’t understand why the accident is happening.”

Richmond Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
