England defender Ben White will miss the remainder of the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to “personal reasons,” the team announced on Wednesday.
According to the national team’s official website, White left the team’s training base in Al Wakrah, Qatar, to return home and will not return.
“The Arsenal defender is not expected to return to the squad for the remainder of the tournament,” the team said. “We ask that the player’s privacy is respected at this moment in time,” it added.
White missed the team’s training on Monday due to illness and did not play in Tuesday’s match against Wales. The 25-year-old did not play in any of England’s group play matches.
England is next scheduled to play in the Round of 16 against Senegal on Sunday.
