Roughly 10 miles of the Lewes-Georgetown trail will be ready to walk and ride at the end of October, when the latest section is expected to be completed.
The seventh phase, about a mile-long section along the north side of Route 9 from Cool Spring Road to Fisher/Hudson Roads, is underway.
The trail will cross Route 9 via a crosswalk at the signalized Fisher/Hudson Roads and Route 9 intersection, according to Department of Transportation spokesman C.R. McLeod.
“As of right now, that is the plan,” McLeod said.
This phase of construction will also include a spur trail from Fisher Road east to Stephen P. Hudson Park, a Sussex County Land Trust project, to feature a parking lot, bicycle kiosk and restrooms.
Previously completed sections of the trail include:
- Gills Neck Road to Cape Henlopen State Park (Lewes), 9,000 feet.
- Savannah Road to Gills Neck Road, 6,000 feet.
- Minos Conaway Road to Savannah Road, 17,250 feet.
- Log Cabin Hill Road to Minos Conaway Road, 8,400 feet.
- Cool Spring Road to Log Cabin Hill Road, 4,250 feet.
- Parsons Lane to Airport Road (Georgetown), 4,800 feet .

- Gravel Hill Road to Harbeson Road, 9,250 feet.
- Park Avenue to Gravel Hill Road, 8,600 feet.
- Airport Road to Park Avenue, 6,200 feet.
