Delaware State Police have identified the man who died at the scene of a vehicle crash that closed northbound lanes of Route 1 for almost four hours on Thursday.
Police said Rodney Bowmaster, a 36-year-old from Lancaster, Pennsylvania was driving the 2008 Ford 150 that crashed in the construction zone south of Roth Bridge on April 27. According to police, Bowmaster was not properly restrained.
Police said the crash happened around 3:56 a.m. when Bowmaster’s Ford drifted partially into the center lane and struck approximately four construction barrels and an unoccupied GMC C8500. The GMC was a part of the construction equipment being used for the repair of the overpass and it was stopped in the center lane of northbound Route 1 directly under the Kirkwood Saint Georges overpass.
The crash snarled morning commuter traffic. The St. Georges Bridge, which was shut down for construction April 4, added to the delays.
