HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A jury trial has been set for a man who was charged in connection to a Waffle House shooting that occurred on Halloween night last year in Henrico County.
Tywanta Taylor, 25, has been charged with shooting into an occupied building, malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with a shooting that reportedly occurred in the Waffle House on Williamsburg Road on Oct. 31, 2023.
According to Tywanta Taylor’s brother, Marcus Taylor, he was an employee of the restaurant when a woman entered and started an argument. The woman left the restaurant after a while but came back with a man who began arguing with Tywanta Taylor as well.
“He made a fuss, tried to fight my brother, went back outside, got his gun, went around the building, banging on the doors, trying to get inside and everything,” said Marcus. “And then he went outside. I mean, he went to the front, he shot into the glass and my brother ducked [and] shot back.”
During the shootout, the man was hit in the face, according to Marcus Taylor.
Police said the man left the area to be treated at a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers later arrested Tywanta Taylor for his role in the shooting.
A date has now been set for Tywanta Taylor’s jury trial in Henrico Circuit Court. The two-day proceeding is scheduled to be held on May 22 and May 23 later this year.
