HARRISONBURG, Va. (WRIC) — The James Madison University Dukes Women’s Basketball team has been eliminated from the first Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament after an 81-70 loss to the Stony Brook Seawolves.
The Dukes came into this game as the best defensive rebounding team in Division I women’s basketball, with an average of 32.3 per game. They also had the 17th-highest defensive field goal percentage, with their opponents shooting an average of 36% from the field.
The Dukes did not have enough to make it past the Seawolves, one of the best defenses in Division I. The Seawolves rank No. 3 in defensive field goal percentage, with their opponents shooting an average of 24.8% from long range — and No. 4 in defensive field goal percentage, with their opponents shooting an average of 34.4% from the field.
