JMU Dukes take down Badgers 72-61 in first NCAA Tournament game in 11 years


NEW YORK (WRIC) — The James Madison University (JMU) Dukes beat out the Wisconsin Badgers 72-61 this opening round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament — their first in 11 years.

The Dukes faced off against the Badgers the night of Friday, March 22, at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn.

They came into this matchup with favorable stats, ranking highly in both shooting average and defense. The latter was especially highlighted during Friday’s game, with the Dukes clocking in at a total of 28 defensive rebounds, according to ESPN.

Their offense was equally aggressive, with the Dukes’ largest lead over the Badgers being 17 points — despite the Badgers having a higher three-pointer percentage, according to ESPN.

Following this win, the Dukes will meet the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday for the second round.
