After years of hard work, Delaware State University’s Class of 2023 gears up for graduation next week in Dover.
DSU’s commencement ceremony will be held at Alumni Stadium on Friday, May 12.
Each graduate is granted five guest tickets. Attendance is restricted to graduates, families and guests and current DSU students.
The undergraduate ceremony is scheduled for 8 a.m., with award-winning country music star and Delaware native Jimmie Allen set to give the keynote address.
Allen, 37, grew up in Milton and studied at DSU from 2004 to 2006 before leaving the HBCU to pursue his music dreams in Nashville, Tennessee.
The ceremony for graduate students will be held at 11 a.m. at Tubman Laws. Willis Lonzer, international president of Alpha Phi Alpha and DSU class of 1990, is the keynote speaker.

DSU’s graduation will be broadcast live on screens in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center as an alternative viewing site. Guest tickets will be required to access this location, according to the school’s website.
With the extra people navigating the city on the big day, Dover residents should prepare themselves for increased traffic and longer wait times at various establishments given the number of graduates dining out with family for a celebratory meal.
