Amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been detected with hernia and will be undergoing surgery on Sunday (Mar 31), media reports said citing his office.
Notably, the procedure will require full anaesthesia for the prime minister. In this event when the Israeli PM will require anesthesia for the medical procedure, the Deputy Prime Minister and also the current Justice Minister Yariv Levin will assume temporary leadership responsibilities during the prime minister’s absence, as is common in such scenarios.
This is often outlined in constitutional or governmental protocols to ensure continuity of leadership and governance. The hernia was detected in Israeli PM while a routine checkup was carried out on the leader on Saturday (Mar 30).
Later, the surgery was decided to be carried out. It’s worth mentioning that the 74-year-old Netanyahu had a pacemaker implanted in July 2023 following a medical emergency. The Israeli PM earlier underwent a hernia operation in 2013, as per media reports.
The hernia operation will reportedly take place once the Israeli war cabinet conclude its meeting which is scheduled to take place in the evening hours on Sunday (Mar 31). This crucial development comes as Netanyahu is facing calls to resign as over a hundred Israelis continue to be remain as hostages under Hamas’ captivity.
