“American Idol” wants to know if there’s a singer in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland or New Jersey who has what it takes to become a superstar.
Mid-Atlantic region singers have a chance to prove themselves to an “Idol” producer over the next few weeks during virtual auditions for the reality show, which is gearing up for Season 22 (it’s seventh season on ABC).
Virtual auditions for Pennsylvania and New Jersey are Wednesday, Aug. 23. Delaware and Maryland are on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Here are nine things to know before a virtual audition, gleaned from American Idol’s website.
What’s the age limit to sing on ‘American Idol’
Auditionees must be age 15 or older by Feb. 15, 2024 — to compete. If you’re under 18 on the day of your audition, a parent or legal guardian (over the age of 21) must be present in the room for your virtual audition.
Can you do a virtual audition for a state you don’t live in?
Yes, guests can sign up for any audition date and not just for the one state they live in, granted they don’t sign up more than once per audition state.

What do I need for my virtual audition?
You’ll need to download the Zoom app to your phone, tablet or computer (desktop or laptop).
How can I register for a virtual audition?
Hopefuls can register by visiting abc.com/shows/american-idol/auditions.
What can I sing at the audition?
Guests will sing for a producer, not the “Idol” judges. Prepare to sing of your choosing a cappella or with your own instrumental accompaniment (guitar, for example). Auditionees should be ready to sing at least two songs, or possibly three.
If you get a callback, you may be asked to sing two songs a cappella, one of which might be from a list that’ll be provided to you by the producer at the time.
Can I use a musician for my audition?
Singers can have one person in the room with them to accompany them with a musical instrument (piano, guitar, etc.) during the virtual audition.
What should I wear at the audition?
“Idol” hopefuls are encouraged to wear clothes without designer names, corporate or sports team names or logos.
Singers should wear clothing free of copyrighted images, cartoon characters, celebrity names or images, profanity or inappropriate messages.
Should I cover up my tattoos?
Singers with tattoos must follow the same guidelines as the clothing restrictions. Ink must be free of all of the above. Tattoos that don’t meet those requirements must be covered up.
How will I know if I’ve been selected to audition?
An “Idol” producer will notify you via email or phone if you’re selected for a virtual audition. Since you need to provide your contact info to submit your video, it’s important that all of your contact info is accurate.
