The National Weather Service officially called for a winter storm watch for the Delmarva Peninsula region Thursday morning that extends from Friday to Saturday evening.
Heavy snow possible with total snow accumulations of 6-10 inches is possible with locally higher amounts, according to the weather service. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. That predication is for Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester counties in Maryland, as well as the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The report was for portions of southeast Maryland and eastern and southeast Virginia. The National Weather Service also advised against unnecessary travel as it could be very difficult as “gusty winds could bring down tree branches.”
Reports for Delaware were also updated to include “heavy snow possible.” Total snow accumulations of 4-9 inches are possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

The town of Ocean City has also issued storm watch advisory saying “due to the combination of snow, gusty winds and frigid temperatures, hazardous driving conditions are likely Friday evening and Saturday. Therefore, travel is strongly discouraged Friday evening and during the storm on Saturday.”
Ocean City has reported Emergency Management personnel are continuing to monitor the storm and crews will begin to pretreat the roadways and will begin plowing when the snow accumulates.
A&N Electric Cooperative on the Eastern Shore of Virginia said it was preparing for the likely impact of the winter storm.
Given the current forecast A&N recommending members prepare for possible extended power outages. Take this time to refill prescriptions and have medicine on hand. Prepare for any other medical needs, such as a cooler of ice for insulin. It is important to note that families who have special medical needs or elderly members should make plans for alternate arrangements in the event of prolonged outages.
The cooperative and its tree trimming crews are prepared to respond to any outages related to tree damage.

AccuWeather released its winter storm watch for the Eastern Shore of Maryland, northern and central Delaware, far southeastern Pennsylvania, and much of central and southern New Jersey.
“Snow is expected to begin Friday evening in Delmarva and southern New Jersey, spreading northward overnight into Saturday morning. Snow may be heavy at times through early afternoon before diminishing late in the day. Winds may generate areas of blowing snow and low visibilities at times. The storm total snow forecast remains very uncertain,” noted the forecast.
