Greensville County Public Schools closed Monday due to shooting investigation

GREENSVILLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Greensville County Public Schools will be closed Monday, February 5th, as the county’s sheriff’s office investigates a shooting, according to Superintendent Kelvin Edwards.

In a statement released on Sunday, Edwards said the school division was advised by local law enforcement officials to cancel school for Monday following a shooting in the community. As a result, Greensville Elementary School, Edward W. Wyatt Middle School and Greensville County High School will be closed.

The shooting investigation remains ongoing, but the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office did confirm the shooting took place at the Brookridge Apartments.

Greensville County Sheriff W.T. Jarratt said on Facebook that the apartment complex located off Route 301 South, or Skippers Road, is a working crime scene involving gunshots fired. Residents are being asked to avoid secured scenes until further notice.
