A man was shot several times Monday night after Delaware State Police say a gunman forced his way into a Georgetown apartment the man was visiting.
The man, whom Delaware State Police did not identify pending notification of family, died from his injuries.
Police said the man, who was visiting the Dunbarton Apartments, answered a knock at the door and let a woman into the apartment.
Once the woman was inside the apartment, police said an unknown gunman forced the apartment door open and shot the victim several times.
The gunman then fled on foot.
Emergency Medical Services and Georgetown police arrived on the scene at about 8:25 p.m. and transported the victim to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.
This is the state’s 10th homicide this year and the second one on Monday. Earlier in the day, a 35-year-old man was fatally shot west of Felton. His body was found in a ditch.
