Four people were killed and at least eight others were injured after a race car drifted off-road and hit spectators at a rally in Hungary on Sunday (Mar 24). Citing a statement from the Komárom-Esztergom County police, the news agency Associated Press reported that the accident occurred during a race between the towns of Labatlan and Bajot near the Danube River in northwest Hungary.
“According to the data so far, a vehicle participating in a rally race drifted off the road for an unknown reason and drove into the spectators,” the statement added.
Eight ambulances and four helicopters were dispatched to the scene, and the race was halted. The report said that among the injured, two people sustained serious injuries while the remaining six were transported to a hospital with lighter injuries.

The reason behind the crash is not yet known. Videos circulating on social media showed the race car losing traction on a paved road before sliding into spectators who had gathered to view the race.
The Hungarian National Motorsport Association (MNASZ) expressed its condolences to the relatives and family members of the victims, a report by the news agency AFP said.
The MNASZ vowed to cooperate with the authorities to investigate the circumstances of the accident without delay.
