HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The court proceedings for a former Catholic school teacher who was accused of committing several child sex crimes have ended.
On Sept. 11, 2023, Daro Ing was indicted on a total of 13 counts relating to sexual abuse of children reportedly committed during his time as a third-grade teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Henrico County, according to a press release from the Catholic Diocese of Richmond.
According to court documents, these charges included:
- Five counts of aggravated sexual battery of a person under 13 years old
- Four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child
- Three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor
- One count of sexual battery
During a March 7 hearing, Ing pled “nolo contendere,” or no contest, to four of those 13 charges — the three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and the one count of sexual battery, according to court documents. This plea carries the weight of a guilty plea without the admission of guilt.
The prosecution filed “nolle prosequi,” or unwilling to pursue, for the remaining nine charges. At the time of reporting, it is not known why this motion was filed.
Ing was sentenced to a total of four years, with all of that time being suspended. According to court documents, that time spent on probation will likely be with the county’s Community Corrections Program.
