One person has died and four other people have been injured following an “electrocution incident” in the fountain area of a Florida shopping center over the weekend, police say.
The Jupiter Police Department says they were called to Harbourside Place in the southeastern Florida city late Sunday afternoon. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said “911 callers stated that a juvenile was in the fountains and began having distress” and “It was then reported that multiple people may have received an electrical shock when in the water.”
“The initial investigation determined five individuals were injured and were transported to local hospitals,” police said in a statement. “The three juvenile victims transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center are continuing to recover in the hospital.
“One of the adult victims transported to the Jupiter Medical Center has been released from the hospital and the second adult victim transported to the Jupiter Medical Center was later pronounced deceased at the hospital,” investigators added.
Harbourside Place, on its website, describes itself as Jupiter’s “premier downtown destination for shopping, dining, luxury hotel accommodations, entertainment and boating.”
The CEO of the shopping center told WPTV that the incident is a “tragedy” and “Our focus is on the people involved and their families.”

“We ask the community to join us in praying for them,” the CEO reportedly added.
The source of the reported electrocutions was not immediately clear.
“We are aware of a serious incident that happened in Jupiter late Sunday afternoon. Our crews responded quickly to ensure the site was safe for first responders to access the area,” Florida Power & Light told Fox35 Orlando in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those involved.”
