Fans are happy and saddened by unexpected schedule changes to Firefly Music Festival’s Friday lineup on Day 2 of the four-day festival in Dover.
One of the glaring changes is that fans of the EDM artist LSDream no longer have to flip a coin to decide between watching him or headliner My Chemical Romance.
The remedy is LSDream’s schedule will be earlier. Their show now starts at the Pavilion Stage at 9:45 p.m. and ends at 10:50 p.m., which is the same time that MCR’s show begins on the Firefly Stage.
The bad news (for some) is that LSDream’s new timeslot is the one that was originally held by rapper Big Sean. The Detroit rapper was quietly removed from the festival’s schedule and fans noticed this Friday afternoon.
A few hours before his gig, Big Sean tweeted at 3:23 p.m. that he was bowing out.
“Really, hope i get a chance to play this legendary festival. I been looking forward to it! Im contagious though n honestly my throat is shot. Love to y’all, i feel terrible i cant make it,” the rapper wrote on Twitter.
His fans on Twitter shared how they felt about the situation.
“We still love you,” one fan tweeted.
“L,” another person said, which is shorthand for “that’s a loss” or “a losing situation.”
“Feel better!! You’ll be back twice as strong!!” an upbeat supporter said.
Members on the Firefly Music Festival Fan Page on Facebook were commenting about Friday’s updated schedule.
“so big Sean backed out?” a confused fan wrote. “Wow one of the main reasons I came was to see BIG SEAN I’m definitely disappointed,” another fan added.
Then again, that disappointment from Big Sean fans has morphed into excitement for LSDream’s supporters.
“I can see Lsdream now,” a grateful fan added. “I’m so glad this conflict got ‘fixed,’ ” responded another Firefly lover.
This schedule update puts to rest a lot of frustration LSDream fans have felt since Firefly released the set times for each act in late August, which initially had LSDream and MCR playing set times that overlapped.
But a number of LSDream’s fans at Firefly also love MCR.
Moreover, My Chemical Romance is arguably the most anticipated act that festivalgoers are looking forward to seeing this year in The Woodlands, besides Green Day.
Founded in Newark, New Jersey, in the early 2000s, MCR delivered hits like “Welcome to the Black Parade,” “Famous Last Words” and “Teenagers,” before the band broke up in 2013.
The rockers’ reunion tour has been long anticipated.
Sean O’Connell, vice president of programming for festival producers AEG, said it was huge landing MCR for Firefly’s 10th anniversary celebration, which ends Sunday.
“My Chemical Romance is one of the biggest tours of this year. It’s the biggest reunion,” O’Connell said before the start of this year’s Firefly. “They’re on very few festivals here in the United States, so that’s a big, big [win].”
Firefly Music Festival is being held in The Woodlands (599 Persimmon Tree Lane, Dover) from Friday to Sunday.
