Family had not heard from resident in over a week
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — First responders are searching for a missing person after a single-story Richmond home was destroyed by a severe fire.
Just before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, firefighters with the Richmond Fire Department arrived to a home on the corner of N 28th Street and Kane Street for report of a house fire.
According to Battalion Chief Raymond Neville, firefighters found smoke and flames pouring from the front side of the house, through the front door and window, the garage area and the attic.
As of 2 p.m. Sunday, no firefighters or residents have reported injuries — however, one person is unaccounted for. This person, currently unidentified by officials, has reportedly not spoken to their family in over a week.
According to Neville, crews continue to search the home, but are delayed due to how many items are inside, making it hard to move around.
Additional units are being called to the scene to assist in this search, making this fire a two-alarm fire. According to Neville, the investigation into the fire cannot proceed until they either locate the missing person or confirm they were not in the home.
The cause of the fire is still not known. No other information is available at the time of reporting.
