A 17-year-old boy has been charged with fatally stabbing his girlfriend’s mother’s boyfriend on Monday, the New Castle County Police Department reported.
Police said they found 33-year-old Matthew Hessey stabbed in the chest at 12:25 p.m. on the front step of an apartment building at Hillview Avenue and Sixth Street in the community of Mayview Manor, near New Castle. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

“My thoughts are with the family during this tragic and very difficult time,” Police Chief Col. Joseph Bloch said in an official statement.
The 17-year-old suspect was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony, and possession of ammunition by a person prohibited. All of the charges are felonies.
He is being held on $1 million cash bail.
