A Saturday evening crash between a vehicle and a bicyclist resulted in the death of a Milford man, according to Delaware State Police.
After a 2½-hour investigation, state police determined that around 6:26 p.m. Saturday, a 2013 Honda Civic was headed south in the left lane of Bay Road (Route 1) just past Tub Mill Pond Road near Milton. It was traveling behind another vehicle. At this time, a 36-year-old male bicyclist from Milford entered the left southbound lane of Bay Road in an attempt to cross from east to west.
Police investigators said that the bicyclist entered the path of the vehicle that was in front of the Honda, resulting in it stopping suddenly. This action caused the 19-year-old driver of the Honda to move into the right travel lane where the car hit the bicyclist.
The bicyclist was flown to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, and his death was announced Sunday. His identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
