Eggs donated to hundreds of Virginia families ahead of Easter Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Food banks across Virginia got a egg-cellent donation from a state trade association ahead of the holiday weekend.

The Virginia Egg Council, part of the United States Poultry and Egg Association, donated 40 cases of eggs to the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, providing 600 families in Richmond and Abingdon with eggs ahead of Easter Sunday.

“We are extremely pleased to donate these eggs on behalf of the Governor and First Lady to food banks in Richmond and Abingdon,” said Lake Wagner, the president of the Virginia Egg Council. “We are honored to be able to provide this nutritious, protein source for families in these areas.”

In partnership with Eggland’s Best, the council also donated 100 vouchers for a free dozen eggs to the families of the medical staff at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University.
