DuPont spinoff Corteva Agriscience moves headquarters out of Delaware

Corteva Agriscience, a spinoff of DuPont, moved its headquarters from Delaware to Indiana earlier this week.

The company, which inherited the seed, pesticide and herbicide businesses from the Dow-DuPont split in 2019, was headquartered in DuPont’s Chestnut Run lab campus off Route 141.

Corteva on Tuesday designated its Indianapolis facility, where much of its crop protection chemistry business is based, as its new headquarters. The facility is closer to the majority of Corteva’s U.S. manufacturing, processing and research facilities, the bulk of which are in Indiana and Iowa.

“In today’s flexible world of work, we have seen clear proof that our dedicated employees can be productive wherever they are,” CEO Chuck Magro said in a statement. “Designating our Indianapolis location as the Corteva headquarters brings us closer to our operations, our technology, and our customers, while optimizing our flexibility.”

Corteva did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In an interview with Delaware Online/The News Journal in 2019, when asked whether the company would move its headquarters to Indianapolis or Iowa, then-CEO Jim Collins said Corteva was “focused” in Delaware and in a “good setup.”

Collins said Corteva’s “corporate functions” were based in Delaware and about 500 Corteva employees worked in Delaware.

The Delaware Business Times reported Corteva does not plan to reduce its Delaware presence and some executives will remain, citing a company spokesperson.

Corteva has about 20,000 employees worldwide.

In November, Magro replaced Collins as CEO. Magro will be based in Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported.

Corteva formed in 2018 as DowDuPont’s agriculture division and became a separate company a year later when Dow and DuPont split.
