RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has announced drought watch advisories have been lifted for nine counties.
“Recent rains have helped alleviate deficits in soil moisture, streamflows, and groundwater levels resulting in the lifting of all drought advisories within the Commonwealth,” a DEQ spokesperson said.
The drought watch advisories have been lifted for the Big Sandy region, including the counties of Lee, Wise, Buchanan, Dickenson, Scott, Russell, Tazewell, Washington and Smyth.
“Several factors have contributed to the improved drought conditions,” the DEQ spokesperson said. “The Commonwealth has experienced above average precipitation during the past month resulting in normal conditions noted by the U.S. Drought Monitor.”
